Identities
Footprint
We are all the makers of our mark and are impressed by our experience. Identity is present in all works of art, be it in the main concept -that which the artist seeks to express- or in the artist's subconscious trail, or simply a reflection of the period lived.
Investigating fingerprints and their visual rendering motivated me to carry out this project. I asked family and friends to print their fingers on paper and enlarged them to study resulting volume and space.
I made the first sculptures in stoneware and later with small porcelain plaques, which I then used as the base material for various murals.
Subsequently I produced large personalised works cast in bronze, for outdoor locations. In these, empty space allows light through and creates an evocative play of lines and volumes with light and shadow.
Outsiders
Created together, they are like an explosion of feelings that have been bottled up for a long time and take shape to express different moods. The weak become shadows and solitude, concentrating on their own deceptions, fear and pity. The powerful are subject to their passions and ignominy, dragging the weak to humiliation and death. Those born different are seen as phantoms and children continue to sleep on the streets. They are society's wounds, sometimes we can cure them, others we leave them to oblivion.
