Colour - Alma Mineral

Colour, which is omnipresent is totally indispensable for an arist.

Throughout my career I've investigated colour using either thrown pieces or tiles as supports.

Color-Alma de los Minerales is based on studio research using colour on ceramic. I've studied chemical element combinations, their behaviour and what happens when fired at different temperature and atmospheres. This project is a prolongation of my research into Hispanic-Arab glazing , with which I established guidelines on how to achieve these glazes.

Hispanic-Arab ceramics reached international acclaim because of their rare beauty. Their glazes not only captivated audiences at European courts, but also opened paths for chromatic research and provided new colours for ceramics in general.

My project includes chemical elements which have never or seldom been used to obtain colours in the ceramic field. Developing chromatic potential and combination versatility is the groundwork of my murals. It is precisely with large formats that new dimensions of depth and chromatic quality are possible.

Colour's symbolic attributes, its inherent significances and evocative possibilities, aesthetically transmit my emotions.
